Work in Progress but we're getting there.
In an earlier blog, Working with a Designer - Part 2, I wrote about a client who likes to do the footwork for the sourcing of materials, fixtures, etc.
My job within this project is as an advisor and specifier, I also create any floor plans required.
The project involved a total renovation of the family cottage.
The most impactful space was the kitchen, of course!
Where else is the family hangout going to be?
The client's husband has the best hobby if you are the recipient of it - he loves to cook.
Me, I'd rather bake but I have to say I can see the merit in cooking when my client explains the gourmet faire they eat for dinner most Saturday evenings.
It's turned into a family tradition that has been going on for decades.
We're almost done, one of the pieces left is unique wood shelves to be hung on either side of the stove hood vent.
There is a story behind the wood for the shelves.
We found them out in the country near the cottage at a salvager's farm. It was actually a bit mind boggling stepping into the barn where there was no end of choice for beams, runs of barn board, and various odds and ends.
All with built in history.
If my memory is correct I believe the wood we choose was from a century barn in a nearby town, they are 100 year old reclaimed wood planks.
The shelves will add character to the kitchen and give my client an opportunity to tell the story of the history attached to them.
This is perfect for my client, she's a history buff and loves a good story!
The before shot
I'll follow up with a completed picture when we get.
Live well + enjoy!
