Hello!
Have you heard the term - traffic flow?
I suppose most people would associate it with vehicle traffic, makes sense. In your home there is also traffic flow occurring, it can be smooth or problematic.
A well thought out floor plan with furniture groupings, lighting, natural lighting, outlets, the list goes on, is designed for the homeowner's ease. It should all make sense, exploit the best assets of the space and feel good.
It feels so good that you shouldn't notice. It just works to make your life in your home easier.
It flows properly.
This is why Floor Plans are created.
If you think of a floor plan as a puzzle, there are pieces that must link together to complete the whole picture. It's mathematical, we must work within the allotted space.
A few of the important puzzle pieces are -
1 - Natural lighting - how it falls in the house (this affects the paint palette)
2 - Millwork/Cabinetry that is fixed to a wall
3 - Furniture groupings
4 - Lighting fixture placement
5 - Traffic Flow
A floor plan then maps out these + more elements which are under consideration. It is fluid while under discussion until that moment when it all comes together.
I like to offer clients a few options, if possible, with floor plans. Usually though there is one that is the perfect fit.
Live well + enjoy!
