Back to the Mid Century Modern home project with a peek at an impactful, yet simple foyer update.
As a part of their main floor renovation, these clients asked that the foyer be updated as well.
It's not a large area however it definitely needed to be injected with some personality in order to fit with the rest of the main floor.
Before:
All of the wood was stained showing the natural tones and was looking a little tired. The flooring was a low looped commercial style wall to wall carpet and the light that hung over the stairwell, located behind the bench, was no longer loved.
After:
To continue on my shameless envy of this home, one of the clients' parent is an artist.
An exquisitely talented artist who loves colour. Just what everyone needs!
The artwork that you see on the wall, which complements the new paint colour as seen on the railing + bench, is absolutely perfect for the space.
In fact it couldn't be more perfect even though it showed up after the paint colour was specified.
The paint colour specified for the railing + bench is Benjamin Moore's Kendall Charcoal.
The colour has to work with the reclaimed brick wall and I also wanted it to define the space, not disappear in it.
You can now see the bench as a fitting element in this space.
There will be an upholstered seat cushion coming to finish it off.
The light chosen put me on a bit of a journey.
My automatic reflex was to place an authentic mid century modern style light. There are so many to choose from and it wasn't hard to find one.
However, the clients were of a different mindset. Turns out they were tired of the mid century lighting styles and wanted something different.
They weren't shy about sending me suggestions, and did I mention their sense of humour is off the charts??
At the end of the day we settled on an open frame square silhouette in a brushed gold metal.
The scale of this light is great and I'm really happy that the clients are happy.
The space came together quite nicely and the artwork is definitely the star of the show!
Live well + enjoy!
