Finding the perfect spot for - that light, the sofa, the headboard .... just about everything.
There's a science to it??? Or not!
It's all about Perspective : Placement in relation to the surroundings.
Have you ever experienced this situation?
You have a blank wall, it's desperate for a picture.
You've managed to convince someone to help you hang a picture and it doesn't end well.
You're just not sure where to hang it precisely.
The picture is never in the perfect spot.
Maybe the sun was in their eyes, oops they forgot to move their finger while hammering in the nail.
You are annoyed, they're frazzled. Giving up is sounding very enticing right about now!
Yes this is not uncommon.
Sometimes a simpler solution is a photo ledge especially if a gallery wall is the end goal, nor do we want our assistant to abandon ship leaving us with multiple holes in the wall!
In the early years of my career I was surprised by how often I was asked to hang pictures for clients. I would find the pictures sitting on the floor or hung way too high on the wall.
Now I expect to be asked and completely understand the call for help.
There is a relationship to all the elements in a space. It's like a puzzle (my favourite analogy), where each piece once clicked into place creates the perfect end result.
So hanging art or positioning the sofa, and headboard is important. In that it needs to relate to all of the other furnishings and accessories that exist in the space.
They work together!
