Kitchen - Adding to Function

Carrying on with the last few posts on updating kitchens - custom add-ons are the condiments we crave.

From tray + spice pullouts, to drawer dividers, hidden slots for cutting boards, to garbage + recycling cabinets - the details of these types of customization make for great kitchen function.

The whole idea of customization is convenience.

Organization is a time saver.

What is better in a busy kitchen than a well organized space?

Knowing that you can find whichever utensil, pot or in this case wine glass right away when you need it.

The idea of a pullout wine glass rack is brilliant. The space saving of a vertical cabinet is exactly the answer to safely storing delicate glassware.

A divider in a utensil drawer tops my list of kitchen convenience.

Larger drawers call for dividers.

It's too easy to lose that carrot peeler in the abyss of mayhem when utensils are on the loose in large drawers.

Pot storage is another conundrum.

Fitting them in a single drawer is a puzzle in the making.

A separate slide out drawer fitted for smaller sauce pans and skillets will make it easier to store stock pots and dutch ovens in the larger bottom section of the drawer.

Here's a tidbit I didn't know.

There is a dutch oven and then a french oven. A dutch oven is made of cast iron while a french oven has a enamelled interior and doesn't require the seasoning that cast iron does.

Another well thought out customization and so pertinent to our current efforts towards protecting our earth.

A storage cabinet for recycling, kitchen waste and compostable food scraps.

A slide out upper drawer holds a pot for composting while 2 large bins sit below for all other kitchen waste + recycling.

So convenient and tidy.

Thoughtfulness when designing a space, especially the one space that is most used in many households, saves time, creates organization and offers peace of mind to those of us who dislike searching for the missing carrot peeler.

Live well + enjoy!
