Specifying A Kitchen

Hello!

I am a kitchen dweller and I'm pretty sure I have great company in this.

It's my favourite room of the house where yummy baking creations are made and eaten.

Working with clients over the years I've rarely designed a kitchen from scratch.

The truth is there are designers who have trained specifically for kitchen design, they are the specialists.

I prefer to work with clients mainly on the specifying side and may offer input on any details that I see as being relevant to the final design.

Choosing the materials, fixtures, hardware - this is fun for me.

This past year I was referred to a couple who live in a very enviable location in our beautiful Niagara wine country.

On a ravine, with a large river/pond and a breathtaking old railway bridge (seriously great photography) as their backyard.

It gets even better ...... in a Mid Century Modern home reminiscent of the architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

Beautiful doesn't even come close to describing this home and it's setting!

The best part - they are great clients and I'm sad that the project is winding down.

The kitchen is a hub also in their home, with 5 adults who have cooking skills.

The original layout was tight and confining.

After conversation, which is how I learn to base my decisions on the materials for the new kitchen, we headed off to various suppliers.

The main cabinetry is painted in Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter.

The island is stained in a rich dark coffee tone.

The countertop is a beautiful rich Cambria quartz that pulls all of the tones we are using in this kitchen together.

The flooring is LVT, luxury vinyl tile. The installation was seamless, the vinyl looks like wide wood planks with great wearability.

A good fit for this family.

I have a few more work in progress pictures that I'll post. I will be visiting the site in the next month as the project will be complete.

And maybe I can get a shot of the old railway bridge.

Live well + enjoy!
