Update of a Classic Cane Tub Chair

These beauties were a gift I received from a dear relative of mine.

I had always loved them, the scale is visually great.

I secretly held out a hope that one day they would be mine!

The details in the carving along with the caning and the fact that they are tub chairs makes them fairly perfect.

If you've ever sat in a chair with a rounded back, you know how lovely it is to be cradled in the curve of chair back.

A tub chair with the correct pitch is guaranteed to be a comfortable sit.

In my treasure trove of saved fabric remnants I had this ticking piece. It's a weighted linen, the finish is refined and I love it.

Sadly there isn't enough fabric for two chairs.

I found another linen, it's a plain but again a beautifully weighted fabric and finished equally well.

I can always add a small lumbar accent toss to each chair in a complimentary fabric if needed.

The worst chore ever is stripping the original fabric + innumerable staples from the chairs.

Holy cow it was not fun, in fact I didn't have the strength to pull the staples from the frame.

I've spent part of my career working with an upholstery manufacturer so I had some idea of what was to come when it was time to take the existing upholstery off of the chairs.

I did give it a go, I am a weakling so it didn't go very far!

Luckily someone else was able to get the upholstery off + the blasted staples out.

I sent the chairs out to be sprayed in a Sherwin Williams black, called Black Beauty.

This colour has so many undertones to it, it's not a pure black at all. I see mainly a pewter'ish undertone when in daylight.

Currently they are out being upholstered.

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

I'll keep you posted.

Live well + enjoy!
