Hello!
A bit more information on this subject....
I have a client that I'm working with currently. Actually I have worked with this client on various projects over quite a few years.
The project we are working on now is a cottage that is located in what we call "Cottage Country". We've been talking about it for a few years but in the last year concept became reality. The interior of the cottage was taken back to the studs, complete renovation.
This client has a defined budget, an aesthetic that is quasi transitional although if left to her own devices she would dive right into old English Country, and is a go-getter.
As she says to me "I wouldn't know where to start, to me a light is a light period. I can't even think beyond that, my brain doesn't work that way."
My job with this project is an advisor and specifier, I develop a plan to get the project done.
I created a floor/space plan for a new kitchen, specified all cabinetry, kitchen + bath fixtures, interior finishes, paint palette, furniture layout + choices, lighting fixture + layout.
As we are working through the project plan there are meetings where we discuss next steps and make any revisions that are required. This client likes to do all of the footwork. She will set out with a plan that I've developed then head out gathering options. I then advise her which is the right one for the space.
This works for this client in a few ways, we always stay within her budget making adjustments if needed, she knows what to look for and where to find it (my input) and she doesn't waste her time or her money.
All positives from the client's perspective.
This client prefers to do the footwork, she is not the norm from my experience.
Most clients I've worked with prefer that I source what is needed for the project.
I love my job, whether the work entails a few visits where a plan is developed which the client will then implement or it is more involved with drawings, product selections, updates or renovations.
I enjoy most any part of the design process. It doesn't matter to me, I find myself in a wonderful zone while working with clients.
Live well + enjoy!
